Amphibians

What are amphibians?

Amphibians belong to the Subphylum Vertebrata. The first animals that crawled out of the sea onto the land were vertebrates. The morphology of vertebrates have features adapted for both the aquatic and terrestrial habitat. They are precursor animals in the evolution process of transformation from aquatic to the terrestrial habitat. The term amphibians tells us that they spend some part of their lives in water, usually the early stages when they breathe with gills. The later develop lungs and limbs and are able to live on land as well.
