樺斑蝶 Danaus chrysippus (Linnaeus, 1758)
The Plain Tiger is distributed worldwide. In Taiwan , it is distributed island-wide fr om lowlands to 1,000 meters in elevation. Males and females are morphologically similar. Females have three small black markings on the center of each hindwing instead of the black sex brands of males. Pl ain Tigers produce several generations in a year. They are commonly found year round sucking nectar in parks, school grounds, and roadsides where the sunlight is plentiful. Larvae are monophagous, feeding only on the blood-flower milkweed ( Asclepias curassavica , family Asclepiadaceae) originally from South America . The Plain Tiger is the model for mimicking female Hypolimnas misippus L.
