Reptiles

What are reptiles?

Reptiles are another type of vertebral animal, they are the oldest terrestrial organisms on earth, and have evolved from amphibians. The body surface of a reptile is covered by scales or a shell (a bony plate). Most reptiles hatch from eggs, but there are some viviparous species. The body of a reptile changes with that of their environment, they are poikilothermic animals just like amphibians. Snakes, lizards, turtles, crocodiles and alligators are well known reptiles.
