Stegodon sp., judging from its name, had the cutting edged incisors. The appearance of incisors looked much like Mammuthus , but with small curve not big one. Fossil Stegodon sp. distributed in Asia and Africa, but mainly in Asia, in particular in the areas of Gansu and Shanxi Provinces of North and South China where many fossils were unearthed. On the main island of Taiwan, the neighboring countries such as Japan and Indonesia had report of fossil discovery of Stegodon sp. Paleontologist believed that at Ice Age, due to the climate change, Stegodon sp. migrated to the warmer South and it was also because the sea water was brought to the land by wind and formed ice river. Lower sea level worldwide helped the formation of land path and thus, Stegodon sp. was able to traverse to separate islands and develop its subspecies.
