¡@The stone spearheads
have a slate texture and in terms of appearance resemble a
narrow and long triangle, with the two symmetrical sides of
the triangle serving as a ¡§blade.¡¨ The blade sides slightly
arch outwards and meet in a ¡§sharp point,¡¨ the blade sides
and sharp point forming the ¡§blade area¡¨ of the artifact.
The opposite side of the ¡§sharp point¡¨ the bladeless ¡§base¡¨
is where the wooden handle would be attached
¡@
¡@ The spearheads unearthed at the Tamalin Site are mainly
of an ¡§full-edged type¡¨ whereby the edge line extends all
the way to the base, though there are some specimens where
the base is clearly narrower than the edge, with a stem or
notch at both sides as the area where the spearhead would
be tied to a handle. When used stone spearheads do of course
need to be fastened to a bamboo or wooden handle. As a large
weapon that is thrown or used to pierce the spear was used
mainly for hunting, though possibly also at times of conflict
or war. |
