Manufacturing method
Rattan strip was the material and the diagonal weaving method was used. This involved vertically weaving the raddle (a1) above a set of two horizontal raddle (b1 and b2) and then weaving under neighboring set of two raddle (b3 and b4) , a then weaving under b5 and b6 etc….Using this up and down weaving order, the horizontal raddle and vertical raddle are both vertically crossed and the interweave of the adjacent horizontal and vertical raddles are only separated by one raddle.
Through this process two rectangular flat rattan boxes were made, after which the edges were trimmed. Some rattan boxes had hemp string attached, joining the top and bottom boxes. |
