Introduction

¡@¡@Hunting and fishing were important sources of food for Taiwan's aborigines in the early days and only later did they begin to grow rice. Due to the importance of hunting, they developed various kinds of trap to catch different animals. These traps became more complex the closer the tribe lived to the mountains. Before iron reached the aborigines, the traps were either pits or snares made using bamboo or wood. Only after iron became available did this kind of large trap for large prey appear.
¡@¡@Different traps were used to catch different animals, each with a different name. The trap for wild pig was called "pertiler", while others were called sermatip".
