Introduction

      

In the museum collection there are two kinds of rucksack. The first is a betel nut bag, the other is like the Bunun tribe's net bag.The uses of the two kinds of bags were very different. In Nanwang betel nut bags are called aliut, in Zhiben rafa. They were used to carry tobacco, money and betel nuts etc and had both practical and decoration functions.Only men over maidan age could use such bags. It seems that the net bag was not a traditional Puyuma tribe object, most of their carrying tools were back carried baskets, therefore it is estimated the tribe learned how to make such bags in cultural exchange with other people.
