Around 1950, before ci xiu embroidery technology had become available the leg wraps would be made from woven cloth. After the technology arrived, the Puyuma tribe began to replace the original flower patterned piece of cloth with cross stitched cloth pieces and sew on red, green and yellow strips to each end for men. For women the situation was similar, three different color pieces of cloth were attached to the cross-stitched cloth pieces. A thin rope would be attached to the four corners for tying the leg wrap on to the leg.
