Introduction

Cinnabar is composed of mercury and sulfur, sometimes of trace amount of selenium (Se)and tellurium(Te). Cinnabar has the bright red color and streak, high specific gravity, and lower hardness. When exposed to the air and weathering, cinnabar decomposes as native mercury, montroydite and calomel. It is not an important mercury ore, but is used for refining mercury. Although mercury has toxicity, yet it is widely used in industries.
