Introduction

Consisting of lead and sulfur, Galena may also contain small amounts of silver, copper or zinc. Its distinct features include lead gray color and streak, perfect cubic cleavage and high density.Galena is a relatively common sulfide mineral, found in a variety of occurrences and localities. In particular, it is abundant in the low temperature hydrothermal deposits. Galena that is formed in the oxidation zone of sulfide deposits is less stable and is often altered to secondary minerals, such as Anglesite and white lead.Among many lead-rich minerals on the earth, Galena is the primary ore of lead.
