Introduction
Jamesonite consists mainly of lead, iron, antimony, and sulfur. It sometimes contains minor amounts of copper and zinc. As a result of its acicular, fibrous, or plumose (feather-like) crystal habit, it has been called feather ore. Jamesonite is named after Robert Jameson, a Scottish Mineralogist. Its important features include its metallic luster, lead-gray color and streak, as well as its acicular fibrous or plumose crystal habit.Jamesonite, from which lead can be extracted, is mainly formed in medium-low temperature hydrothermal veins. |
