Introduction

Marcasite consists primarily of iron and sulfur and occasionally little copper and arsenic. Of orthorhombic crystal system, it is polymorphic with pyrite of isometric crystal system.Fresh marcasite is light brass-yellow or light bronze-yellow after weathering, whose strength is greater to marcasite than to pyrite. Hence, there is by far less marcasite than pyrite in Nature.Similar to pyrite, the major use of marcasite is to extract sulfur.
