Introduction

General color of Idioscopus taiwanus brown; eyes green, vertex with a black spot close to each eye; anteclypeus black; postclypeus with a pair of black spots at base in female, absent in male; scutellum with a black spot near each basal angle, area in between black; tegmen brown, costal margin, 4th apical cell and apex of appendix deep brown. The trivial name makes reference to Taiwan. Although smaller, it is somewhat similar to I. niveosparsus. The face of the first is ornamented simply and the appendages of the aedeagus arise from a pointed apex, whereas in I. niveosparsus the face has abundant markings and the appendages of the aedeagus arise from a blunt apex. The small spine-like projection on the ventral margin of the pygofer in the new species is unique. The host plant of this species is Mangifera indica Linn. The description of this species based on the description of Huang (1992).
