Features
¡@¡@Serows belong to the bovine family, which have a common feature,
that is, both sexes have a pair of hollow horns, which do not
shed for their entire lifetime. The horns of Formosan serows
are conical in shape and grow from the top of the head. There
are growth rings at the base of horn sheath. The skull contains
apparently protruding conical horn bones. The Formosan serow
is similar to sheep in size. The coat is dark brown, slightly
long and very thick, with exception of light yellow fur at the
throat and black fur on the back of the neck. Their hooves are
protruding around the edge and with hoof glands, which provide
more grip for them to walk agilely on steep rugged areas. Head
& body length: 80-114cm, tail length: 6cm, weight: 25-35kg,
dental formula:0/3,0/1,3/3,3/3 =32, toes: four digits on each
hoof. |
