Function and use

¡@¡@The baskets were used by carrying them on the top of the head. Sometimes the bottom would have legs to make carrying easier
¡@¡@Amis used the woven baskets mainly to carry wood, sugar cane or other crops, or to carry firewood or clothes. More delicate, finer baskets were used to store grains. Field research at Fengbin harbor shows these finer baskets were used by higher status or better off members of the tribe.
¡@¡@Woven baskets had numerous functions. When they had a lid they could be used to store grains. If without lids they could be used to carry stuff like tarot and beans in the fields. If legs or handles were added they were easier for women to carry. Round baskets with lids were used to keep clothes or valuable things in the home, protecting them from pests. Rattan baskets for food had legs and larger ones were used to store rice, tarot which could be accessed easily by hand. Smaller ones were used to store betel nuts and were an essential item in the Amis homes.
