Introduction

      

Traditionally Amis carried things on poles and in baskets carried on both shoulders. The baskets were woven from rattan and bamboo strips. 　　In traditional society, the baskets were important objects for placing and carrying things. This highly developed handicraft was used mainly to supply people's own needs. 　　As the environment has changed, the material used in woven items began to change to multi colored nylon strips because it is cheaper and more easily accessible than rattan and bamboo. Women have also begun to engage in weaving.
