¡@¡@When making smocks the Atayal usually would not make a sample but would simple stitch cloth together. The sewing method involved putting one
¡@¡@ Ordinary sleeved smocks would be based on sleeveless smocks onto which sleeves would be attached. These were called ¡§lukus qujit¡X¡§lukus¡¨/smock and qujit/sleeves.
¡@¡@Ceremonial clothes would be made from white cloth. Geometric patterns would be embroidered onto the chest area and back. Coming of age clothes were often made by sewing shells and beads to the cloth.
¡@¡@ This pearl smock has red and white cross woven hemp as its base and has strings of round pearls made attached to the back and front of the smock.
¡@¡@ Up to 120,000 shells and pearls could be attached to the garment making it weigh 6-7 kg. This kind of pearl garment is unique to the Atayal and is the ¡§weaved shells¡¨ of ancient times.
