Function and use

主要是做為使者的男子

The alarm bells were used mainly by male messengers, who would emit messages as they ran. When young men moved from the takunakuban age to the miabutan age they would each make a new tawliur.
Today, these bells are mainly used in ceremonies, like when the harvest festival begins and the young men have to inform the whole village. Today a metal rod is often used to make sound. In the female head hunting and rain ceremonies, the women form a line and hit the tawliur with a metal rod in time. This item was probably used by the Puyuma tribe to inform tribe members when they were on the move.
