Mostly formed in hydrothermal environments. If formed in a high-temperature hydrothermal vein, it will contain more iron. On the other hand, it will contain less iron when formed at lower temperatures. Sphalerite is often intergrown with galena, calcite, fluorite, barite, dolomite, pyrite and quartz.
