Function and use
Shawls were an item of clothing worn by both men and women, worn when going outdoors or when the weather was cold.Men would usually wear it flat o the chest with two corners tied behind the neck. Women would usually wear it diagonally across the chest, worn across the right shoulder and under the left armpit or vice versa, with the two ends knotted at the shoulder.
Shawls were intended to keep body heat and block wind and protect the body. People would wear a shawl over their usual garments in cold weather. They could also be sued as blankets at night. Atayal women would also sometimes use shawls to carry things. |
