Japan, the Ryukyus and Taiwan, It is moderate common in the in the forests of central mountain Ranges at the latitudes between 2000 and 3000 m, and in the northern part at 500 to 1050 m, sometimes in pure stands. Flowering between the late March and mid-May. Fruits mature in late August.
