¡@¡@Amis pestles were round or square. Double pestles and stone pestles were accessories for use with round mortars, while single pestles were accessories for square pestles.
¡@¡@The hand of the single pestle was on the top so when it was used only one end could be used. Some were shaped like small baseball bats, like stone pestles. The two ends were round, with one end thinner than the other. Because of different structures, stone pestles were divided into two kinds: complete ones, that is a pestle made from a single stone, called osolo by the Amis; the other kind was made from two stones joined in the middle by bamboo or rattan, called otalan by the Atayal. Wood pestles were made by shaving a tree branch into a club shape. Some pestles were thinner and straight, with the end carved into a hammer head shape, like a chestnut crusher.
¡@¡@Double pestle: the whole pestle was made from wood, with a handle in the middle and two round ends. Generally, double pestles were thicker than single ones.
