Shape ¡@¡@Hats can be divided into three kinds by function: status indicating hats, dancing hats and work hats. The work hats, woven from rattan strip, were mainly bowl-shaped rattan hats. This type of hat was worn by the high mountain Amis, Atayal and Paiwan. The hats indicating status were work hats decorated with feathers. The hats of the Xiugulan Ami were woven in a horizontal fan shape, while the dancing hats of the northern Amis were arranged in an erect fan shape. No matter how the feathers were arranged they were an indicator of status. |
