Same as the long smock,short smock belong to the square clothing system. Usually the short smocks had buttons down the front, were collarless and reached down to waist level, being roughly square in shape.In terms of patterns, vertical lines, diamonds,squares etc were embroidered either vertically or horizontally. Some short smocks also had ties or white buttons down the front or around the sleeve openings. Colors were usually red, black,blue,white or yellow. Smocks had different names according to the patterning and decoration.Basically,there were three types of short smock--sleeved, unsleeved and hessian short smocks.
