Function and use ¡@¡@Unpatterned short smocks made from hessian were usually work clothes. Smocks with embroidered patterns, with or without sleeves, were ceremonial clothes. ¡@¡@Sleeveless short smocks were worn by men for special occasions, with few restrictions on suitable accasion,however, women could not wear this kind of smock.Sometimes the short smock would be worn over the long smock, but only accomplished warriors could wear the smocks in this way. Wearers of smocks decorated with round shells were either chiefs or were great warriors who had collected a number of heads. Sleeved short smocks were usually worn by women on special occasions,but could also be worn by men. |
