What are igneous rocks?

The temperature and pressure deep inside the planet is very high, there rock remains in a fluid state as lava. Igneous rock is formed when the temperature of the lava drops slightly and solidifies. Different kinds of igneous rocks are formed when the elemental composition of the lava or the cooling rate is different. Common igneous rocks include andesite, basalt and granite.
