What is a Mineral?

Minerals are homogeneous solids produced naturally through inorganic processes with certain chemical components with ordered atomic arrangement of the elements. They are the basic substances that comprise the solid earth. Minerals can be very beautiful with many different and vivid colors and exquisite crystal formations. They are not only natural works of art, the embodiment of beauty, but they are permanent records of the history of the earth and reflect the development and changes in the geological structure of the planet and its environment and surface. Minerals are the key to exploration of the earth, and the best partner in our daily lives. Gems, metals, cement, pencils and the salt we eat are all different forms of mineral.
